Prizes for petanque prowess

There was a long list of trophies when the Cinque Ports Petanque League held its presentation evening on Monday (November 10) at the Pipemakers Arms in Rye. There were prizes for the winners of the leagues, the runner-up and some individual prizes. Prizes were also awarded to winner of the beer game. The beer round is a short game at the end of the match where the losing team buys the wining team a beer and at the end of the season the team that consumed the most free beer in the league received a trophy.

The trophies were handed out by Rye News sports editor Dan Lake.

Tuesday A League winner: Tenterden Club, Tenterden; runner-up: Green Owl Hotel, Camber. Beer game winner: Green Owl Hotel. The men’s individual winner was Peter Walters and the ladies winner was Bab Martin-Lewis both from the Inkerman Arms A.

Wednesday A league winner: Robin Hood Inn, Icklesham; runner-up: Choppers Queens, Icklesham. Beer game winner: Royal Albert, St Leonards. The men’s individual winner was James Wilson from the Black Horse, Telham, and the ladies winner was Maddie Mills from the Choppers Queens.

Wednesday B league was the Rye Bay Caravan Park, runner-up: Fairlight Lodge, Fairlight. Beer game winner: Rye Bay Caravan Park. The men’s individual winner was Wayne Novis and the ladies winner was Jody Pitman, both from Rye Bay Caravan Park B.

The Singles Knock-out winner was Joey Phillips from the Robin Hood and the Pairs Knock-out winners were Andy Pettit and Maddie Mills.

At the end of the evening, league organiser Dennis Leeds-George, was presented with a bottle of Muscador rose wine in appreciation of all his hard work in organising the leagues.
