Are you looking for a new way to get outdoors and be active or find something you can enjoy together with the family? If the answer is yes, Rye Harbour Sailing Club (RHSC) in Rye Harbour is inviting you and your family to come and try sailing on May 13 and 14.
Whether you’re completely new to the sport or looking to get back on the water, RYA Push the Boat Out (PTBO) at RHSC is the perfect time to give it a go. The nine-day nationwide event will see hundreds of people taking part in the sport with open days and taster sessions taking place at sailing clubs and centres across the country.
“We’re inviting the local community to come down to have a go at sailing, see what the Rye Harbour Sailing Club has to offer and get involved. Who knows, you might just get hooked!” commented Commodore, Caroline Wylson. Sailing can be as physical or as relaxing as you want to make it; you can sail with others or on your own; do it competitively or potter about and just enjoy the gentle escape of being outside in the elements.
Starting at 11am, on Saturday May 13, there will be a whole host of activities taking place, including a demonstration on how to splice Dyneema rope and a chance to learn how to tie knots; some information on sea safety; a design-a-boat competition for under 10s on Sunday May 14; a chance to sail with experienced club members and also see how to get a boat ready to sail and find out more information about RHSC and how to become a member. Hot drinks, cakes and food from the BBQ will be available to buy and the bar will be open on both days. If you want to have a dinghy sail you will need to arrive at the club by 11am on Saturday and 12pm on Sunday.
