Rye Town FC made their first ever appearance at Rye Rugby Club on Saturday September 29. Until The Salts pitch is given a clean bill of health from Rother Council this will be their home ground.  A football pitch was prepared and marked out, resulting in an excellent playing surface for the Rye Town football players.

What a game it was too, against local rivals Northiam 75 I.  After a goalless first half Northiam came out of the blocks quickly and took the lead three minutes into the restart.  Rye Town responded quickly and Charlie Stevens brought Rye Town level in the 50th minute. Sammy Foulkes then put Rye Town in front in the 75th minute before Northiam brought the game back to two apiece in the 82nd minute, a minute later Sam Cooper came up with Town’s winner making it a 3-2  final score and Rye Town bagging their first league win of the season. The signs are there and hopefully this may prove to be a lucky pitch.

On this historic afternoon Rye Rugby Club were also playing at home and the camaraderie with the two sets of local players and supporters from rugby and football was second to none.  Spirits were buoyant in the club’s new refurbished bar and the socialising went on way into the evening as the sunset over the club’s playing fields.  The match was sponsored by SD Solutions.

This Saturday October 6, Rye Town entertain Bexhill AAC at the Rugby Club, kick-off 3pm. The match sponsors are EW Production Services.
