Following the fire at St Michael’s Hospice, a million pound Phoenix Appeal has been launched to repair the damage – and work has already started.

The re-building is well underway and the Hospice is excited to announce a number of alterations have already being carried out to make it truly fit for the future.

“If you have been to the Hospice recently you would have seen we have now erected the scaffolding around the front to allow us to start work on the new patient bed lift. A number of structural alterations have been also made, and the foundations for the extended conservatory have been laid” said Bruni Llovet, Head of Marketing.

To ensure the Hospice is suitable for the next generation, and allow the In-Patient Unit to relocate the patients back to Upper Maze Hill, St Leonards-on-Sea, a number of specific Phoenix Appeal events have been organised throughout 2016 to help raise the £1,000,000.

“And we are now urging the residents and businesses of Hastings and Rother to run their own Phoenix Appeal events – fundraising ideas could include a challenge of a life time, completing a personal challenge, or simply holding a tea party with your friends and family – the list is endless.

“Or why not get together with a group of friends or neighbours and do something in your local area? If you need any inspiration, please do give our fundraising team a call, we’d love to hear from you” said Sally Beresford, Community Fundraiser at the Hospice.

Nicky Histed, HR and Accounts Manager at DVS Ltd, explains why she’s supporting the Phoenix Appeal : “The work the Hospice does in our community is invaluable – and as a family we have witnessed it first hand.

“I’d encourage any local businesses who are looking for a worthy cause to support to get involved. The sooner we see the Hospice restored to its home, the better for all of us in the community. I am delighted to support the Phoenix Appeal.”

Hospice at Home Health Care Assistant Cheryl also urges the public to get involved and explains why the care at the Hospice is so vital.

“Looking after someone when they are at a vulnerable phase of their life is a very intimate moment. Being able to provide my patients with direct support is very special, and something I feel exceptionally proud of. As part of a team we provide symptom management whilst offering emotional support to patients, families, carers and friends.”
