Rye Hospital is holding a summer fete on June 22 to raise money for the Hub on Rye Hill, the new community well-being centre that is currently being built and due to open in December 2019.

It’s the first fete since June 2016, and promises to be well worth the wait. It will be a fun-filled, action-packed afternoon with plenty to do for children and adults alike. There will be food, live music from The Rye Bay Crew, a gloriously fun dog show with an array of categories to enter, including prettiest bitch and most handsome dog. The finale will be Best in Show sponsored by Pampered Paws in Rye. The winning dog receives a grooming voucher.

Eight-class entry for the Dog Show

Traditional games such as Sweet Hoopla, and Tin Can Alley will be on offer, always popular with the children, as well as Shetland-pony rides, a bouncy castle and face painting, plus a few unusual fete activities, such as the chance to make some beautiful marbled paper, or have your portrait painted.

Adults can experiment with reflexology, peruse the many stalls  and pick up a plant or two for the garden, or have a go at the silly games and activities.

There will be an opportunity to find out more about the Hub on Rye Hill, with a unique chance to take a guided tour around the site, and discover for yourself the beautiful space being created. The tours will start at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30. No need to book, but there will be a limit of between 10 to 15 people per tour.

The community art project, featuring the 44 portraits, featured in Rye News last week, will be up on the hoarding for all to see and enjoy. Come along spot a neighbour, friend or relative or maybe yourself.

Last, but not least, there is the grand raffle which will be drawn on the day. There are plenty of amazing prizes to be won, including the incredible first prize of an iPad. Tickets are £1 each

And if you need a break, just take a seat, listen to the music, eat some delicious food with a cool glass of Pimm’s, or enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of home-made cake, or a bowl of local strawberries and cream, with cream from the suppliers to Wimbledon no less.

What more could you want? So come along, between 1-4pm on Saturday June 22 to support this brilliant new venture, and enjoy a perfect summer’s afternoon. Fingers crossed for nice weather.
