Rye 1sts record big win

Rye 1sts made the short trip to play second placed Little Common Ramblers 1sts in the heatwave last Saturday. Skipper Harry Smeed made the right call and Rye batted first. Rye made slow progress at first against accurate bowling. Harvey Jack bowled 7 overs 1-11. However Rye grew into their innings. Fin Thomson 36 provided a base from which skipper Harry Smeed 67 off 55 balls and Luke Payton 50 from 48 balls, and at the end Shahrukh Khan 31 off 19 balls saw Rye to 236-7 off 45 overs.

In reply Little Common’s innings never got going as Rye’s bowlers applied the pressure. Craig Pierce 3-23 and James Smeed 2-24 reduced Little Common to 63-5, which soon became 123 – 8 and finally all out for 136 as Rye won by a 100 runs.

This Saturday, Rye host Glynde 1sts in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera, as Rye look to build on the win to focus on a positive run into the second half of the season.

The 2nds hosted Glynde 2nds on Saturday in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn. This was a clash of first v second in which Glynde proved the stronger side. Rye 2nds with a young side have produced really good performances this season but on Saturday faltered in the heat and missing 2 key members of the bowling attack. Glynde posted 240-4 thanks to 139 by Archie Howard. A score boosted by some unenforced fielding mishaps. In reply Rye scored 176-9 as Ben Clifton hit 59. Rye slip to second place as Glynde take over top spot. This Saturday Rye travel to Little Common Ramblers 2nds.

The 3rds had an emphatic win over Sidley 2nds to maintain second spot in Division 12. Rye posted 249-7 built around Skipper James Jury’s 86, with support from 17 year old Sam Bradnum 43 and Jon Walczak 48. George Channon wrapped up the innings with a quickfire 28. Sidley never threatened as only 2 players made an impression with the bat. Anthony Bradnum 3-26 and Neil Archer 3-19 did the damage with the ball, as Rye won by 94 runs. This Saturday the 3rds travel to Westfield 2nds.

The Juniors only had one played fixture as both the U13s and U11b recorded wins as the opposition conceded, unable to raise teams. The U16s produced an emphatic win away to Sibton Park B. Rye posted 164-3 in 20 overs as Freddie Furnival 53 rtd and Oscar Wincott-Stone 50 retd posted a 100 run opening partnership. Charlie Cooke 23 and Ollie Balcomb 22 not out continued the run feast. In reply Sibton Park ended up 103-7. Rye U16s finished second in their League as did the U13s.

Next week the U11A host Ashford in the final game of their season with the League Title already secured. The U13s are to play two friendlies against Tenterden and Egerton.
