From slabs to smiles

If you fancy getting your hands muddy, Sip and Sculpt pottery evenings at Camber Landing might be just the thing. Run by Lauren Stapleton of Mudfired, the sessions are designed for beginners and combine creativity with a relaxed, social atmosphere.

At the class I attended, the theme was a chip-and-dip dish. Some participants
followed Lauren’s lead, while others ventured off in their own creative directions. With a slab of clay, a quick demonstration, and plenty of encouragement, we were soon rolling, shaping, and laughing our way through the evening. There was clinking of glasses, cups of tea, moments of triumph and the occasional disaster – but above all, a lot of fun.

Participants can return for a second session to decorate and glaze their creations. Alternatively, Lauren will finish the piece with a transparent glaze, essential if you plan to use your dish for food.

Classes cost £25.
