On Tuesday September 16, Tilling Green Residents Association (TGRA) held a morning of action on Tilling Green.

Some of the TGRA committee Dan Lake, Graham Ellis, Donna Lake, Joan Ridgers, Simone Denman and Simon Burr were joined by Rye town steward Kate Smith and volunteer extraordinaire Luke Williams.

Graham, Luke and Simone started clearing the weeds growing up the curbs outside the community centre, Cooper Road, Tillingham Court and the Link. Everyone else started off clearing the weeds in the alleyways between Marley Road and Nutley Close. It was then down to the end of Cooper Road by the bridge to sort the weeds and bushes that were blocking the paths. Then the team trimmed a hedge that was blocking a path on Cooper Road – Kate seemed to be attracting the grasshoppers whilst trimming the hedge.

Dan, Kate and Simon then went to Nutley Close to tidy up the weeds growing up fences, curbs and also in the alleyway from Nutley Close to Lea Avenue.

TGRA chair Dan Lake said: “I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now and I thought doing it a couple of weeks after the successful Green Waves Festival would keep the momentum going. I would like to thank Kate from the Rye town stewarding team for coming along and helping, also a big shout out to Luke Williams who is always the first person to offer to help whether it’s on Tilling Green or other activities around Rye.

“We are hoping to do another action morning next month where we hope to do more streets on Tilling Green but we really need more volunteers so we can get more done.”
