At the Waterworks Brewery on Rye Road, just out of town, the order of the day on Sunday 9 November was “Cheers!”

Cheers! We won the award

David Roder and Tim Morgan announced via social media that they had won their 11th CAMRA award in seven-and-a-half years. The specific beer that earned this latest award is their Pissoir Porter (4.9 %), which was recognised with the Silver Award for Best Dark Ale. The micropub and brewery is listed on the CAMRA site as the Waterworks, Rye and is described as having made a strong impact within the local real-ale and cider scene.

Why is this significant?

Winning 11 awards over just seven-and-a-half years is no small feat — it signals consistent quality, local support, and a strong reputation among the CAMRA community.

The fact that the award was for a dark ale (Porter style) is interesting: dark ales can sometimes be less common in real-ale competitions than traditional bitters or pale ales, so this shows versatility. For Rye, which has a rich pub and ale heritage, this achievement helps underline the local craft beer scene’s strength and reinforces the micropub as a destination rather than just a local watering hole. From a visitor’s perspective this means that stopping by the Waterworks isn’t just about a drink — it’s about experiencing a place recognised for excellence by an influential real-ale organisation.

Hats off to Tim and David who are such wonderful characters of Rye and bring joy to many people’s lives. Their community spirit shines through, and this award is well-deserved. Cheers!
