The Gathering Place has been a dream of mine since I moved to Beckley 26 years ago. Even then, I could see how much the village needed somewhere people could come together—a place to meet, chat, share something delicious and simply enjoy being in the company of others.
Like many dreams, it took a little time, courage and determination to bring it to life. Now, every Wednesday and Thursday, Beckley Village Hall becomes a warm and welcoming hub at the heart of the village. It is a place to catch up with old friends, make new ones, share stories, laugh and feel connected. One of the things I love most is creating a new selection of homemade cakes every week. I try to keep the flavours as seasonal as possible, and there are always vegan options available so that everyone can enjoy a little treat.
Our freshly baked cheese scones have become a firm favourite—no matter how many I make, there never seem to be enough! We also serve pastries, sausage rolls, delicious vegetarian alternatives and indulgent cream teas, alongside freshly made hot drinks and refreshing iced drinks. We will soon be adding sandwiches to the menu too, giving you even more reasons to pop in.
Everything is available to take away, so you can pick up something lovely and enjoy it in the park just across the road—perfect for a peaceful moment, a picnic with the family or a catch-up with a friend. We are also absolutely delighted to have recently received a five-star food hygiene rating from the Environmental Health Officer. It was such a proud moment and a wonderful recognition of the love, care and high standards that go into everything we do.

But The Gathering Place has never been just about food and drink. It is about people. It is about creating a space where nobody needs to feel alone and where everyone is greeted with a smile and made to feel at home.
There is so much more to come. We will soon be hosting exhibitions featuring talented local artists, Knit and Natter sessions, board game days, book swaps and plenty of other activities. My hope is that The Gathering Place will continue to grow into somewhere people of all ages can come together, try something new and feel part of our wonderful community.
Seeing the hall filled with conversation, laughter and friendship means more to me than I can say. The 16-year-old me, who first dreamed of creating a place like this, would be so proud to see it finally become a reality.
Whether you are joining us for breakfast, meeting a friend for coffee, treating yourself to one of our famous cheese scones or simply looking for a friendly face and a little company, our door is open and a warm welcome is always waiting.
The Gathering Place is open at Beckley Village Hall every Wednesday and Thursday, from 8am until 2pm.

It was a really lovely experience. The scones were wonderful but also the delicious chocolate cake and drinks were great.
