In a space hidden in the natural surroundings of East Sussex you can find CRAFT.inthefield (Craft), the intention of which is to bring together creative minds, artists, makers, designers and people who are keen to learn and share new experiences. Sasha runs the courses and events.
Craft celebrates all things creative, from painting and culinary arts, knitting and carpentry to communal dinners and dance classes. The aim is to share these crafts with everyone through inspirational workshops, beautiful objects and magical experiences. At the moment the intention is to run the workshops in a different location to give everyone a variety of experiences.
Sasha told me, “Last Saturday we had a summer wreath and flower crowns- making workshop in the beautiful surroundings of St Francis Fields, Northiam. This event aimed to bring together the community and anyone that wanted to join and even just come along and have a picnic in the field. It was run throughout the day and we had such beautiful wreaths and crowns.
“We are very impressed by talented children who see and do things differently and have such beautiful, unexpected results! It was a very creative and joyous day and we had lots of wonderful feedback. We will be back to St Francis Fields for an autumn and winter wreath-making workshop and hope we meet more people.”
Sasha moved to Northiam from London a few years ago because she wanted a more rural upbringing for her two children. She had been a product designer in London and wanted to turn her creativity into an interactive experience for people to enjoy, using rural crafts like wreath making.
“She began her craft sessions last summer with small groups but this year she wanted to get the community involved. St Francis Fields belongs to the parish council, and they agreed to her using the field for the workshops. It was a day of community creativity where people could dip into crafts as much or as little as they wished.
