There is never a dull moment in town. On Tuesday, September 20, I made my way to the Kino, as it was two for the price of one, when I spied, in the courtyard of the Mermaid Inn, an artist painting the building.

Being curious, I  went to look at his painting. It turned out that Grant Wood, the artist, was having an exhibition in the Mermaid Inn and was happy to explain to anyone who was interested what media he was experimenting and painting with.

Going on to meet my friend, I heard lovely classical music coming from around the corner It was John Keene playing his guitar, beautiful.

John said he lives near Ashford but loves coming to stay in Rye, sometimes in the George hotel in the High Street or The Mermaid Inn and hopes eventually to move here. He is just doing his Grade A in Kent Adult Education Centre in classical guitar and thought he would try to busk a little. He said that people had been very friendly.

It was an interesting afternoon.
