Rye Town Football Club held its annual awards ceremony on Saturday, June 7 at the Rugby Club. This is always a brilliant event, those who have given their all throughout the season receiving coveted awards.

Shane Ridgers began by explaining the ethos of the club, which he started with his wife Charmaine. “We set up the club for local Rye people in 2016, predominantly, to play affordable football. Over the years we have progressed to the point where we are now encouraging young players to join the club, which they will find a safe and encouraging place to develop their skills and progress onto other clubs. We teach them not only the skills of football but how to be part of a team and support their fellow team players. Whilst this is going on we make sure that the club sticks to it roots, keeping local talent playing for Rye Town.

“This season alone we have had Oli Palmer (16), Seb (17) and Oli Mac (18) all making appearances for Hastings First team. We are really proud of their successes. To young players who have a bright future in football we give that early stepping stone to enable them to progress further.
“Rye Town FC is going from strength to strength and we look forward to great things in the 2025-2026 season.”
