Rother District Council (RDC) recently announced changes to their car parks to coincide with the introduction of civil parking enforcement (CPE) in Rye and across the district on Tuesday, September 29.
With the introduction of CPE, Rother anticipates that there will be an increased demand for their car parks. The main change affecting Rye is the introduction of charging for parking in the Rye Salts car park (also referred to as Rye Cricket Salts car park). The charges will apply to the 15 parking spaces by the cricket pavilion, which is accessed via Bedford Place car park.
The changes were discussed at Rother’s cabinet meeting on September 7. The notes of the meeting can be found here but note that the minutes confuse ‘Rye Salts’ and ‘Rye Cricket Salts’ and list them as two separate car parks.
Rye News asked for clarification and received the following response from Joe Powell, head of services – housing and community during the week; ‘Apologies for the confusion. As you highlight, Rye Cricket Salts should have been removed from the list of free car parks in the appendices and we have since corrected the oversight to align with the instruction from cabinet.’
A new notice at Rye Cricket Salts car park has been erected saying that the parking charges will come into operation on October 15, 2020. Further information on Rother’s car parks and their different parking charges can be found here. Rother have said they will be reviewing the changes, saying; ‘Changes will be reviewed while we assess the impact of on-street parking on our car parks. Once the new charges are implemented there will be a review period of six months.’
