The European Commission and South East Local Enterprise are jointly funding a £4 million upgrade of signals to Ashford station to ensure that new cross-Channel trains, not just from France but also from Germany too, can stop there. St Mary’s Rector, David Frost, recently used the new service to Marseille from Ashford, with trains also going to Lyon and Avignon now, as well as to established destinations like Disneyland, Paris, Brussels and Lille, and the new signals will mean an even longer list of destinations from Ashford. Deutsche Bahn has been waiting for the new trains, before launching its cross-Channel service. The eurocash has come from the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility.
