A man has died after a collision on Jury’s Gap Road in Camber in the early hours of Wednesday 4 February.

Sussex Police said the accident, involving two vehicles, happened just before 5am. Two people were treated by the emergency services.

One patient died at the scene, whilst another was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford in a serious condition.

Sussex Police said, “We can now confirm that a man sadly died at the scene. His family have been informed and supported by specialist officers. We’d like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while emergency services have been in attendance. While we recognise the disruption and inconvenience road closures can cause, it is imperative that we effectively preserve the scene and gather any available evidence which could prove vital to any future court case or inquest.”

The road remained closed between Camber and Lydd for the rest of the day.

Two accidents also closed roads in Rye this week.

Rye Hill was blocked for several hours on Tuesday 3 February after a pedestrian was hit by a car near the entrance to the cemetery.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police told Rye News, “Police were called to a report of collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Rye Hill, the A268, Rye, at around 3.45pm on Tuesday, 3 February. An 11-year-old girl was taken to hospital with serious injuries. No arrests were made.”

On Wednesday 4 February, an accident blocked the A259 at Monk Bretton bridge in Rye. The road was closed for over an hour.
