Good news for diesel drivers

Last Tuesday I had the pleasure of meeting Jon Reardon, the production manager at Rye Oil on Rye Harbour Road, you know the one, the factory just after JC Leisure where all the motorhomes live. You can’t miss Rye Oil, just look out for the towering tanks and cylinders. Wide double gates take you into the site and if you continue straight ahead, passing under a gantry in the direction of a row of dark green storage tanks you will see a parking area on your left for customers of Rye Oil.

Jon explained to me how they can offer the domestic consumer a regular supply of white diesel without all the hassle of long queues elsewhere which will start to build as the holiday season approaches, as long as you are able to fill up before a weekend when they are closed.

The gates to Rye Oil

If, like me, you thought Rye Oil supplied red and white diesel and kerosene only on a commercial scale, you would be mistaken. If you drive a diesel vehicle you can buy white diesel straight from the self service pump (which is card payments only) Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.00am-4.00pm.

Plenty to go around

Until this new initiative gathers pace, the price for a litre of white diesel is £1.50 but, when the quantity sold reaches a consistent level, Rye Oil will have better buying power which will inevitably bring the price down for you, the customer.

Park on the yellow hatched area on the right hand side

Rye Oil is currently cheaper than Costcutter but more expensive than Jempson’s in Peasmarsh but at least now there is a greater choice of outlets. To fill up, the pump is opposite the reception car park. There is plenty of room to park and turn around whatever your size of vehicle, just park in the yellow hatched area using the pump on the right hand side, fill up and make your card payment at reception.

If you need any further help or information you can call Rye Oil on 01797 223374, email them on info@ryeoil.co.uk or check out their website www.ryeoil.co.uk

  1. … if we were to get a public electric vehicle charging point in Rye – now that really would be news, and something to promote.
