Celebrated award-winning international photographer David Montgomery becomes the first celebrity patron for local professional theatre company, Bowler Crab Productions. A legend in his own right, David is renowned as one of the greatest photographers of all time, having among some of his previous sitters: HM Queen Elizabeth II, The Queen Mother, Prince Andrew, Prince Harry, Baroness Margaret Thatcher, Lord Home, Jack Straw, Bill Clinton, HM King Hussein, Cardinal Basil Hume, Andy Warhol, Lucien Freud, David Hockney, Francis Bacon, Howard Hodgkin, Diana Ross, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Jean Shrimpton, Professor Stephen Hawking, Alfred Hitchcock, Muhammad Ali, Bing Crosby, Sir Paul McCartney, Clint Eastwood, Barbara Streisand to name a few. Also supporting the theatre company financially, David recently added Bowler Crab’s Artistic Director, Stephen John, to the long list of privileged subjects, alongside his team of actors currently touring with their Shakespeare repertoire. Pictured with Stephen are: Georgina Patrick (AADA), Oliver Towner (ALRA), Christabel Clark (Cambridge University, Drama Centre).

Stephen told us “Meeting David was a real privilege, the man is such a skilled, creative and passionate force, seeming to have literally spent time with as many celebrities as we could name. We have had many patrons step forward in the last few years to help us achieve our goal of completing the Shakespearean canon, but the support of such a well- known legend left us all feeling shocked and proud”.

When asked what’s next for Bowler Crab, Stephen said “We are currently touring private parties, festival and events with our abridged A Midsummer Night’s Dream and will debut a Macbeth dining experience at The Mermaid Inn, Rye on Thursday September 20 as part of the Rye Arts Festival. ‘Dining with Macbeth’ is a shortened version of the play in which the actors perform scenes between each course, interacting with the tables in the space to create an immersive dining experience. Bowler Crab’s last three ‘pocket productions’ at The Mermaid Inn sold out, thus booking ahead is recommended. If you’ve already seen Bowler Crab’s 2013 stage production of Macbeth or their touring ‘Interpreting Macbeth’ workshop, rest assured this piece is completely different with a new design, new actors, new scenes, and a linear plotline. Tickets are limited and currently on sale from The Mermaid Inn, Rye 01797 223065.”
