Curry fans who go to Friday’s Country Market in Rye Community Centre at 10am will be familiar with the output of curry king John Holbrook (pictured above with his wife) who takes your money on your way out after purchasing curries, cakes, flowers, crafts, jams or whatever caught your eye.
Today (Good Friday) you will be disappointed though as the Country Market moved to Thursday instead as all the good churchgoers will be busy – but the move was only for one week.
John’s curries will be on show again this year at Playden WI’s curry and quiz night on Saturday, May 11 from 7:30pm at their hall in Playden in aid of the upkeep of the hall.
But this regular event is very popular and you need to book early by phoning 01797 229364 or 222583 as soon as possible as numbers are limited because of the size of the hall.
Tickets cost £10 for WI members and £12 for non-members. There will be a raffle and Indian beer will be available – or you can bring your own wine – and the car park is free.
