Selling out fast

With a fortnight to go to the start of the 54th annual Rye Arts Festival, which runs from September 11-28, a number of events have sold out. And with others getting close to capacity, you’ll need to move quickly to secure your tickets.

The first sell-out was Emily Maitlis, who will be talking about her career in journalism, which was closely followed by Andy McConnell, our local glass expert with a national reputation. Dr Roy Brigden’s talk about Eric Ravilious and the inspiration he found at Rye Harbour is also a sell-out. And tickets for the Rye Players’ The Trial – Murder Aforesaid at Rye Town Hall on Saturday, September 20 were also snapped up. A second performance by Rye Players, on Tuesday, September 23, had sold out but we were able to release a handful of extra tickets, and with just four left at the time of writing, it might also be a sell-out when you read this!

Dr Zhivago was to be screened in the 46-capacity blue screen at the Kino on Friday, September 19 morning, but having sold out, Kino Digital Rye kindly rearranged their schedules so it is now being shown where this epic deserves to be seen – the larger red screen. Get booking for a chance to enjoy a special 60th anniversary screening of this modern classic.

Others that have proven very popular and have a limited number of tickets left include national treasure Sir Tony Robinson; Charles Moore and Kate Ehrman and their semi-dramatisation of the final three days of Mrs Thatcher as Prime Minister; and the wonderful young classical guitarist Goncalo Maia Caetano, who is playing in the Tudor Room at the Mermaid on Wednesday, September 24. And last, but far from least, you’ll need to move quickly to secure tickets for the festival’s finale – Timberlina’s eagerly anticipated The Big Wrap Bingo Night on Sunday, September 28!
