More exciting cricket

The weekend saw 2 very exciting victories and one defeat. Both the 2nds and the 3rds chased down large targets to win with 2 balls to spare. The 2nds chased 238 against Laughton 1sts, to win by 4 wickets. Ellis Htter 56 not out, and 15 year old Joseph Kemsley with his maiden league 50 saw Rye to victory, after Kemsley took 2-26.

The 2nds host Iden in a local Derby this Saturday, in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn.

The 3rds chased down Sidley 2nds 189 -7, for which Colin O’Neill starred with 3-45. Then O’Neill, 49, and Jack Keen, 49, shared a century opening partnership, then 14 year old Sam Bradnum, 16, and James Jury, 53 not out, saw Rye home with 2 balls to spare. This Saturday the 3rds travel to play Willingdon 3rds.

The 1sts lost in the top of the table clash with Ifield 1sts. Ifield posted 258-7 as Rye worked hard in the field, with Jackson Woodcock 3-53, and Craig Pierce 2-44 the most successful. Rye felt in the game at tea, but quickly slipped to 6-2 and then 83-5, but Woodcock, 46, and Craig Pierce, 53 not out, ensured Rye reached 206 all out with 2 unused balls in the innings. This Saturday the 1sts travel to play against Glynde 1sts.

Next Thursday the U13 host Folkestone in the Ashford & District U13 Cup Final after defeating Ashford Town. Ashford were restricted to 104 -6 by Rye, for whom 10 players bowled 2 overs each. Rye’s chase faltered with the loss of 2 early wickets but Josh Markson-Brown, 30 retired, and Basti Bowley, 19, set Rye on their way, and Olly Balcomb, 10 not out, saw Rye home with 3 overs to spare.

The Under 11s reached the Finals Day of the Ashford Under 11 Cup. They lost in an exciting semi final to Folkestone by just 4 runs. It was an impressive performance by all the team.
