A quick reminder, if you fancy finding more about joining the Rye News team, we’ve an open evening at Rye Kino next Wednesday June 11 at 6-8pm.
We’re looking for new volunteers to report on life in Rye. You could be covering one of Rye’s many events, interviewing a fascinating local, chasing a breaking news story or following up leads from our readers – there’s no shortage of things or people to write about.
You could also help with putting the paper together: proof-reading and double-checking articles, selling advertising, creating social media or publishing the paper on a Thursday afternoon.
The time commitment is up to you. Some people put in many hours a week, others send in a story every now and again. Like most voluntary organisations in Rye we’re looking at building a bigger base of volunteers and supporters.
It’s an exciting time to be part of Rye News. We’ll be moving to a different publishing system soon which will mean we can be more flexible and creative. More multi-media too, so if you’ve audio or video skills, or want to learn them, get in touch.
Plus you’ll get an inside track on what’s happening in our town at our team meetings, when we share stories and ideas as we plan what goes into the paper.
Rye News has over 6000 readers a week – most live in and around Rye, but we also have readers elsewhere in the UK and across the world. The paper is pretty unique too, filling a much needed gap left by the collapse of local reporting and journalism.
It’s good fun too, with training and advice from a friendly and supportive team.
So do join us on Wednesday June 11 at Rye Kino between 6-8pm. Members of the team will be on hand to answer your queries over a glass of wine – including deputy editor Juliet Duff, chief reporter Kt Bruce and Rye News chairman Peter Connock.
If you can’t make it, do email us to arrange a better time for you: info@ryenews.org.uk
Hope to see you on Wednesday.
James – editor Rye News
