The Romney Marsh Morris dancers made their first public appearance in 629 days as part of a charity fun event at the Shepherd and Crook Inn, Burmarsh, last weekend.

The dancers, wearing face coverings and following Covid-19 guidelines, practiced “distance dancing” in front of a large crowd raising funds for the Kent, Surrey, and Sussex Air Ambulance, the chosen charity of the pub.

Squire, Dave Comley, said; “It’s been a long time, but it’s great to be back.”

The group, who have been practicing distance dancing over the last few weeks, have used Zoom meetings to keep their spirits up during the pandemic.

Squire Comley added; “We’ve actually gained more new members through lockdown than we do in a normal close season, it’s been really good.”

The group are starting a series of “boot camps” to train new members and encourage any others who may be interested.

“Try before you Die” is the boot camp motto, laughed one of the dancers.

The group move on to The Plough Inn, New Romney (July 11) and The Star at St Mary in the Marsh (July 28) before embarking on a weekend tour of West Dorset on July 30, where they are already being referred to as “The Kent Variant” by west country followers.
