The Romney Marsh Historic Churches Trust will hold its annual meeting at All Saints church Lydd on Saturday May 13 at 2:30pm. The address will be given this year by Lord Williams of Oystermouth, Master of Magdelene College, Cambridge and formerly Archbishop of Canterbury.

The Chairman’s Report, just published with the accounts for 2016, says that more than Â£96,000 was given last year in grants towards the upkeep of the historic Marsh churches. Almost £35,000 of this went to All Saints Lydd towards its major renovation project.

Another long-running project is the repair and restoration of the west window at St George’s Ivychurch (pictured above) which it is hoped will get under way this year, as also will renovation of the beautiful little church of St Clement’s, Old Romney.

The work of the Trust is supported by its thousand-plus members, some of whom will be joining the guided tours, this year of St Nicholas, New Romney, and several other Marsh churches led by Joan Campbell on Saturdays July 1 and September 2.

Membership is open to all and new members are always welcome. For further information contact Mrs Elizabeth Marshall email sec@romneychurches.net or phone 01580 241529.
