Zachary, a little boy who lives in Rye, is almost six years old and has had a tough start to life. He suffered a brain injury at birth which has led to quadriplegia. He is a ray of sunshine who brightens up many people’s day with his smile and energy, despite all that he has had to contend with.

Zachary loves to learn, has a wicked sense of humour and is very intelligent. He has so much to say – but he cannot. His disabilities mean that he is non-verbal and has very limited use of his limbs, making it a huge effort for him to try and get his point across.

The Waterworks pub and brewery has been fundraising for equipment for Zachary and because of the kindness and generosity of its customers in Rye and at the brewery (just outside Rye at Playden) over £7,500 has been raised.
Ellie and Tom, Zachary’s parents, are deeply moved by this generosity and want to say a huge thank you to everyone, especially David Roder, Ulla, Tim and his amazing team for all that they have done.
This is what has been bought so far:
Wheelchair monitor arm and stand
Epilepsy night monitor
Private speech therapy sessions. These are not available on the NHS.
Private Physiotherapy sessions. These are also not available, either.
Best of all is an adapted trike which enables Zachary to ride a bike and take part with his brother on family outings. His face just comes alive and to see this is such a joy.
Ellie says, “We are absolutely blown away by the huge amount of support we have already received: we Hursts would like to say the most enormous ‘thank you’ to everyone who has shared or donated. You are all amazing. Together we will do this! And so far you have made Zachary’s life so much better and on top of that all our lives are less fraught and more fun. We couldn’t have done it without you. ‘Thank you’ is just too small to express what we feel.”

There are further fundraising events planned, please check social media.
