With their first game of the new season being called off on Saturday September 5 against Sedlescombe, who were unable to raise a side, Beckley Rangers Eagles U18s travelled away this weekend to Tonbridge Youth Eagles U18s in the Crowborough and District League Youth Division A fixture. It did not take long for Beckley’s passing game to reap rewards, with Lucas Zon scoring after 15 minutes, shooting in from an angle.

Zon soon added his second, by heading the ball into the net with Charlie Smith assisting. With 10 minutes remaining before the half time break, Smith, on his debut, shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner to make it 3-0 to Beckley at half time.

Rangers began the second half in the same way, pressing the opposition early into making mistakes and Beckley moved the ball around quickly. Zon struck again from the edge of the six yard box to grab a well deserved hat trick. Joe Fraser added number five for Beckley with an amazing 25 yard volley, from a high ball onto his chest and a shot into the top corner, leaving the keeper stranded.

Smith finished off the scoring for Rangers with his second goal of the game, striking the ball into the top right corner of the net from 20 yards. But it was not all about the goals, as the Beckley defence Jordan Swain, Charlie Newman, Josh Zon and Bradley Sayer all played superbly to keep a clean sheet. Tackle of the game goes to Jordan Swain sliding in to take the ball off the Tonbridge striker’s toe. Well done to Olly Bunn, Charlie Smith, Ben Nicholas and Chuka Benwelu for all making excellent debuts. Lankelma and MPL production’s man of match, Lucas Zon.
