First steps to save centre

As reported last week, Rye’s Heritage Centre, including its famous town model, is under threat of closure.

However steps are being taken to set up a charity to either run the centre in future or, at very least, for the short term while various alternatives are explored.

Rye Town Council are holding a special meeting this coming Monday to receive a report back on recent developments in relation to the Heritage Centre and also consider a restructuring report, as the closure of the Heritage Centre and the transfer of tourist information services from there to the town hall may result in changes affecting council staff.

The same night the planning committee will be considering (before the additional meeting of the full council) revised planning proposals for the derelict Grist Mill which faces the Heritage Centre on the other side of the river.
