The Rector of Rye, the Rev Canon David Frost marries Alison Care this Saturday October 10 in St Mary’s church at 2pm with only 15 people present because of the Covid-19 restrictions on social gatherings and they will be honeymooning in North Devon.
The Vicar of Bolton, the Rev Canon Chris Bracegirdle, will preside at the ceremony. The couple met at church as Alison is a Deputy Verger at St Mary’s.
Canon Frost will be retiring at the end of the year after 10 years service at St Mary’s and the hunt will start shortly for a new Rector to lead the team which looks after a number of churches in Rye and the surrounding area.
As Rector of St Mary’s, Canon Frost usually starts the Town Council meetings with a prayer and a number of civic services are held in St Mary’s Norman church just behind the 18th century Town Hall.
Government restrictions as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic will affect both the traditional Remembrance Sunday service and the annual service at Rye Harbour’s church commemorating the lifeboat tragedy there.
