The Rye & District Chamber of Commerce has had a presence in Rye for around 75 years and over the last 18 months it has had a re-awakening and is now proactively representing and promoting the town and its businesses with a range of projects.
Co-chair David Nixon said, “It is important businesses in Rye have a voice, and chambers of commerce are nationally and internationally recognized, so it made sense to raise the profile of this existing organisation. Our membership is now around 50 and we are hopefully going to build this to over 80 once we can make contacts as we unlock and are able to hail some of the initiatives we have”.
Chamber member Jane Brook of Space Coworking has done a great job on the new website, take a look where you’ll find details of news, members, offers and membership. Chamber members recently worked with InBloom video on the recently released business re-opening video.
The Chamber is again now able to offer free cardboard recycling for members. This is an immediate saving on business cardboard disposal costs and all can be assured that within hours of the unit being collected the cardboard will be recycled as it is taken direct to Smurfit Kappa’s plant.
As unlock unfolds and spring arrives, the Chamber will be pushing forward on the coordinated floral facelift planned for the town as well as litter picking and doorstep sweeping so that the town is looking at its best for residents, businesses and visitors.
Rye will be putting its best foot forward for domestic vacations and, with the likely influx of visitors, the Chamber has already had discussions with Rother District Council regarding traffic management, more regular emptying of litterbins, and parking in the hope of mitigating possible problems.
