3rds come in third

The 3rds on Saturday, August 23, ended their league season with a victory away to Hertsmonceux 3rds. Rye batted first and scored 184-6 off 40 overs. Sam Bradnum maintained his impressive season with the bat scoring 46, he was supported by Tom O’Neill 29 and Ed Prentice 30 not out. 17-year-old Sam finished the third highest run scorer in the division.

In reply was another youngster, 17-year-old Tom O’Neill, who took 5-39. Anthony Bradnum 1-16 and Neil Archer 1-0 finished off the innings for 118 all out and Anthony and Neil finished second and third respectively in the wicket-taking rankings for the division. Not forgetting 3 catches by 16-year-old Oscar Wincott-Stone.

The 3rds finished third in the division and gave the youngsters so much experience this season. This Saturday, August 30, the 3rds play Icklesham Invitation XI at Icklesham at 1.00pm start which is in aid of the MIND charity. There will be a raffle on the day.

The 1st Xl maintained their fourth position in division 3 East despite a loss to third-placed Lindfield. Lindfield were restricted to 212-9 in 45 overs. Harry Smeed 3-36 and Craig Pierce 2-46 the pick of the bowlers. Only Toby Shepperton 60 made a solid contribution. Rye’s reply never got going as skipper Harry Smeed hit 53 and Reuben Collingwood 38 took Rye to 113-2 but then collapsed to 136 all out.

This Saturday, August 30, the 1sts host Crowhurst Park at the Rye Cricket Salts in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera. It will be tough as Crowhurst Park are seeking to escape relegation.

The 2nds hosted Crowborough 1sts in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn. The 2nds losing streak continued in another tight finish. Yet again Rye lost the toss and batted first. The Rye batters struggled on a low bouncing wicket. Only Olly Rhys Jones 54 and Ben Clifton 29 made headway. Rye accumulated 175-9 off 40 overs. In reply Crowborough were struggling at 88-5 after James Archer 2-17 and Martin Blincow 1-21 had applied pressure. Then Matt Cole 58 no and Jamie Anderson 53 no took Crowborough to victory with 4 overs to spare as the Rye bowlers faltered.

This Saturday, August 30, the 2nds head to bottom club Firle seeking the end to their losing streak in closely fought matches.
