The cedar tree in Rye Cemetery that was felled in 2023 has been recreated in a new 3D computer model.

The tree, thought to be hundreds of years old, was controversially chopped down after fungal decay was found causing structural damage and leading to safety fears. It was a much-loved part of the cemetery and there were plans originally to create a sculpture using its wood.

Rye resident Amber Holmes created the new video using software from Hastings-based ScanWow.

“I scanned the tree by accident when visiting Rye Cemetery,” said Amber. “It shows the importance of digitally preserving things, as future generations can now know all about the cedar tree.”
