Make the most of this incredible heatwave
Wear a hat, keep hydrated, buy a fan.
Keep an eye on the latest weather forecast
And, of course, you can top up your tan.
Yes, I know there are those who don’t like it
They’ll have to stay inside, take a shower.
Invest in a new air-con unit
Live in a triple-glazed ivory tower.
Am I missing the point here, dear reader?
Are these heatwaves our big wake-up call?
And if we ignore all the warnings
It could lead to massive species’ downfall.
There are doomers and deniers and don’t knowers
And there are those who don’t give it a thought
And there’s also the do-ers and protesters
Hoping they’ll gain your support.
You’ve got to admit it ain’t easy
Raising topics that can easily provoke.
Maybe avoid climate issues completely
You don’t want friends thinking you’re woke.
Best to leave it in the hands of the experts
Now the health of the planet’s out of joint.
Let’s hope that they know what they’re doing
Before we hit some fatal tipping point.
We’re told adaptation’s the answer
Carbon capture sounds really fine.
So relax, enjoy the heat wave
But let’s hope we’re not running out of time.
