There was a real sense of anticipation in the air as supporters, volunteers, sponsors and arts lovers gathered on Sunday 26 July for the launch of the 2026 Rye Arts Festival brochure at the Community Centre in Rye.
The unveiling of the programme marks the official countdown to one of Sussex’s best-loved cultural celebrations. Now in its 55th year, the festival will once again transform Rye into a vibrant stage for music, literature, theatre, film, art and inspiring conversation, events taking place across many of the town’s historic venues.
Guests enjoyed the first opportunity to browse the beautifully produced brochure, eagerly highlighting favourite events and comparing notes on the performances, talks and concerts they hoped to attend. As always, choosing between the wealth of talent on offer promises to be the hardest part.
Rye Arts Festival has built an enviable reputation for attracting internationally renowned authors, acclaimed musicians, distinguished speakers and outstanding performers while continuing to champion emerging and local talent. The festival’s unique blend of world-class arts, intimate venues and the warm welcome of the town creates an atmosphere that keeps audiences returning year after year.
Behind every page of the brochure lies months of careful planning by the festival team, volunteers and supporters whose dedication makes this remarkable event possible. With the brochure now in people’s hands and tickets available the excitement can truly begin. If previous years are anything to go by, many of the most popular events will sell quickly, so festival-goers are advised not to leave their booking too long.
Directors of the Festival Andy and Niki Stuart commented, “We aim to provide a broad programme so that there is something for everyone. One thing we would urge people to do if they can is to try going to something that they are not familiar with in the hope of being rewarded by a pleasant surprise.
“We would like to stress that the many occasions on which as you go through the programme you will see comments like ‘We welcome back…’ indicate that performers have been asked to return because we know that they are extremely talented and well worth watching!”
