Coastal Currents festival, the annual celebration of creativity, returns this September with exhibitions, films, performances, workshops and other events around Hastings and St Leonards.
At the heart of the festival are the Open Studios weekends on 5/6 and 12/13 September giving people the chance to meet artists from Hastings, St Leonards, Bexhill, Battle, Fairlight, Pett and Rye, working in their studios or homes. Ceramicists, painters, printers and photographers are taking part, giving visitors a chance to talk to them about their work and processes, and giving an opportunity to make a purchase or even a commission.
In Fairlight, local artist, Annie Soudain will be showing her lino prints, paintings and collages inspired by the landscape and wildlife of the area, and Anna Wilson-Patterson will be showing a selection of her paintings featuring dogs, and the wildflowers and sights of the shingle beaches around her home.
Ceramic artist Tania Fallon is opening her home in Prospect, Pett Level to exhibit her work alongside a selection of local artists including painters Alice Instone and Louise Body, assemblage artist Kate Iles and ceramicist Luke Gottelier. The BlueShedPett in the old lifeboat stores will be exhibiting clay sculptures, assemblages and 3D still lives. In Rye, The Strand Quay Gallery is showing a selection of paintings, prints, cards, jewellery and photographs by local artists.
There are plenty of other fascinating studios to explore in Hastings and St Leonards including those of some artists in the Rye Society of Artists and those who have exhibited at Rye Art Gallery including potter Judith Rowe and ceramicist Katja Seaton, painters Sally Cole and Katherine Reekie, and artist Dominic Zwemmer.
