Award-winning singer-songwriter Elles Bailey brought her distinctive blend of blues, roots and Americana to St Mary’s Church in Rye on Sunday afternoon 30 August, performing with her full band as part of the Rye International Jazz & Blues Festival.

The historic church was packed for the 3pm concert, providing a wonderfully atmospheric setting for Bailey’s powerful, smoky vocals and energetic stage presence. With dramatic lighting picking out the musicians against the ancient interior of St Mary’s, it was a performance that looked every bit as good as it sounded.

Bailey has become one of the most acclaimed names on the British roots and blues scene. She was named Live Act of the Year at the UK Americana Awards 2024, and went on to win Album of the Year, Vocalist of the Year and Broadcaster of the Year at the 2025 UK Blues Awards.

There were loyal fans from far and wide and some who has seen her perform at Sidmouth International Jazz Festival.

Her Rye appearance comes following the release earlier this year of her latest album, Can’t Take My Story Away. The set featured material from the new record alongside songs from her growing back catalogue.

Elles commented after the concert, “Well, well, well, Rye Jazz- take me to CHURCH on Sunday ! Gosh… that was special. Super duper special! All of the emotions being in that beautiful sacred place, sharing my stories with my incredible band to all of you. What a joy, what a moment.  Thank you for packing out St Mary’s and for making our trip to East Sussex so magical. My heart is full.”
