Some 200 people came through the doors of the second Recycle Swap Shop of 2015, held at St Mary’s Centre, Lion Street, last Saturday, writes Mike Pepler. About 330kg of items were donated, with 88% finding a new home, 7% being recycled and just 5% being consigned to landfill. The heaviest item was a set of three chunky concrete garden planters, which were snapped up within minutes. We were grateful for the donations of just over £80, which covered the cost of renting the hall and other expenses of running the event. The next swap shop is on Saturday June 27 at the Tilling Green Community Centre, Mason Road. Doors are open between 9:30am and 12 noon, but items being given away must be there by 11am! Remember, you don’t have to bring stuff; we’re very happy for people to come and take it away – otherwise there’s too much left over at the end. Please don’t bring anything that’s dirty, broken, dangerous or illegal – and no mains electrical items. [Photo: Kenneth Bird]
