On Tuesday, February 2, I inadvertently fell on the river bridge in Ferry Road and hit my head and other parts of my anatomy. I was so shocked, I couldn’t actually move, and was left in an untidy heap on the pavement. Feeling very scared, as I didn’t quite know what had happened as it was all so fast, I just lay there.
None of the passing cars stopped and there were no pedestrians, but after a little while, I was very, very relieved to see a passer-by on the opposite side of the road and yelled for help. She ran over and at the same time two vehicles stopped, one with a retained fire fighter and the other a school teacher. They duly sorted me out, the firefighter checked me over and they got me on my feet. I have never been so glad of help from local people. I had a primary school teacher, a secondary school teacher and a firefighter at my side, well, actually making sure I didn’t fall over again!
I wasn’t at all badly hurt, it was just the shock of falling that had made me unable to move myself, so they got me home and the two teachers stayed with me until various members of my family came, as I live on my own.
To me, this was a prime example of the community helping me to recover my equilibrium, and meaning I did not have to take up valuable space in A&E. I haven’t named them, as I don’t have their permission, but you know who you are. Thank you so much.
