Writer and broadcaster Richard Crowest returns to the garden of the National Trust’s Lamb House in Rye this Saturday evening, July 18, for readings from EF Benson (of Mapp and Lucia fame) and other authors, on the topic of bogus psychics and comical ghosts. Tickets are £8 at the door which opens at 5pm. Prosecco and light refreshments on sale to help the evening pass by and people with rugs are welcome to recline on the grass. Next month the Lamb Players will be in action in the garden (August 14-16) performing Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” with performances at 7pm on Friday and Saturday and 1:30pm and 5pm on Sunday (Tickets £16 from Grammar School Records). And in September (11-27) the Rye Arts Festival marquee will host a variety of talks covering (among others) Polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, Margot Asquith, architect Nicholas Hawksmoor, and (inevitably) EF Benson, writes Charles Harkness.
