You’re good to go

It did exactly what it said on the tin… it was the place to be last Saturday night, May 11. Rye Bonfire Society’s Ultimate Eurovision Party rocked Rye!

In true Eurovision style it started off with a technical hitch, (nul points),  but once resolved the night got underway and ended with a resounding douze points.

There was glitter, there was glam. There were tears of joy and laughter. There was the weird and the whacky  – you really wouldn’t expect anything less! And those joining in the fun at the Mermaid Inn were no different, they sparkled, sang, and partied through a spectacular Eurovision Song Contest.

We even had a birthday celebration, full marks to the audience for their rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’. It was great to see the Mermaid Inn crowd United by Music. Streamed live from Malmö in Sweden, and shown on two huge tv screens, the Tudor Room became very continental.

Heartfelt thanks to Judith for hosting us, and to head chef Drew et al, who produced fabulous charcuterie platters for the party goers. Many thanks also to Jenny and Richard from Jeake’s House for donating a wonderful champagne breakfast as a prize.

The photo booth selfie corner proved very popular with all attending, including the bar team.

Although Switzerland won, the Mermaid Inn winner was Finland – yes, the crazy guy with no trousers. It’s fair to say this was another fantastic fundraising event by Rye Bonfire Society. Thank you to everyone who came along and supported us.

Coming up next is our annual auction of promises on Wednesday, July 3. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for more details, coming soon.
