“Feeling and revealing” is the new show by Rowena McWilliams at the Smallhythe gallery on the outskirts of Tenterden on the road from Rye to Tenterden via Wittersham.

The exhibits show the process, techniques and stories behind her work and the show is inspired by landscapes, emotional experiences, co-incidences and meaningful words.

They show powerful images from an artist who may wear her heart on her sleeve, but the many experiences that Rowena has had, coupled with extensive travelling, have given her a unique perspective.

Her use of mixed media and collage in this exhibition display careful observation of the early morning, the sunset, along with the brightness at midday. Rowena uses collage as a release of shapes so that she feels she is painting with paper and she is in good company – think of Monet.

Rowena’s work is ‘considered’ and a painting of mixed media and collage may remain on her easel until the she is completely happy with it – which results in truly evocative work.

The show runs until Wednesday, October 30, Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
