Fundraising with an Italian flavour

On Saturday, November 25 the New Hall at Winchelsea was bedecked in red, green and white bunting, looking very Italian and welcoming. The mayor and mayoress of Winchelsea, David and Sandra Merrifield, were hosting a fund-raising charity evening with an operatic flavour. It was a sell-out and there was a real buzz in the hall as those assembled waited.

Thomasin Trezise and Paul Hopwood sang a selection from opera, not all Italian perhaps, but no-one minded. These performers did not just sing – they entertained, too and even had the audience joining in with the chorus from time to time.

The food at the event was superb, a three course meal with an Italian theme, and everyone loved it. No-one really sees the hard work that goes on behind the scenes at these events – the planning, the buying of the food, the cooking of it as well as the setting out of the hall. Hats off to everyone who helped because the event was a rip-roaring success, just like last year’s Spanish evening.

The event raised £3,000 for Demelza House Hospice for Children and The Corporation of Winchelsea.
