Rye Arts Festival brought a musical gem to St Mary’s Church on Saturday, September 21. In the afternoon the London LGBT community choir, The Pink Singers, invited anyone interested to join them for an impromptu singing session.

Many responded and with Pink Singers dotted in the aisles, the song ‘The Greatest Love of all’ was taught and eventually sung by everyone. Several visitors and tourists arrived and joined in and one German woman said to a neighbour: “Es ging mir ans Herz”. (It touched my heart).

Afterwards the choir gave a taste of what to expect in their evening performance, which was wonderful. They are the longest-establshed European LGBT choir with fantastic choral arrangements. The Rye Arts Festival brochure says their music “will leave you wanting more”, and that was certainly true. The evening performance included songs made famous by Shirley Bassey, Barbara Streisand, Diana Ross and other soul singers. Their voices and harmonies were mesmerising.

The choir is appearing in 2020 at the Cadogan Hall in London, further information available on their web site.
