This year is the 100th anniversary of the publication of Queen Lucia, by EF Benson, the first book in the series of six that eventually saw Emmeline “Lucia” Lucas move to Tilling (Rye) and meet her nemesis Miss Mapp.

Many celebrations were planned to commemorate this anniversary, by the EF Benson Society, Rye Arts Festival and others. The pandemic intervened, but nothing can halt Lucia’s progress.

Singer, songwriter and musician Kate Garner, who is a frequent visitor to Rye and the creator of “Mapp & Lucia – The Musical”  is to hold a virtual concert based around Queen Lucia next month. The show will be available on YouTube for 48 hours from 7pm on November 18. This means that people will be able to watch in the comfort of their own homes, at a time that is convenient to them (or watch several times), without the worries of connecting to Zoom, checking they are on mute etc etc.

All are welcome to attend the event. Email kategarnerpiano@gmail.com and say you would like to join and Kate will send you a link. There is no charge but if you would like to make a donation, there will be an opportunity to do so. Like most performers Kate’s public performances have been drastically curtailed by the pandemic, but despite this, the show must go on – line.
