Rye readers braved the cold and rain to turn out in force on Friday night 6 February for the launch of Alex Preston’s new spy novel, A Stranger in Corfu.

Local writer Alex, whose previous novel Winchelsea sold in droves, was in conversation with technology scribe Simon Roberts (author of The Power of Not Thinking) about the themes and background of his latest thriller. The discussion also took in the history of British intelligence on Corfu before turning to Alex’s developmental love of espionage literature, starting with simpler tales of Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys and James Bond before moving on to more sophisticated fare such as John Le Carre.
Eager fans were especially excited to hear that Alex has begun work on Rye, the much anticipated sequel to Winchelsea.
Of the 130 plus guests in attendance, most picked up a copy of the new hardback and those who missed out can grab it from The Rye Bookshop where there are still a few signed copies.
