Painting the town

“Record entries of very high-quality paintings!” summarises this year’s ever popular Tuesday Painters Club of Rye exhibition which runs from August 10-17 10.30am-5.00pm at  St Mary’s Centre, Lion Street, Rye.

Over 180 hanging submissions are on display, all available for purchase, from our ever-increasing membership which includes professional as well as leisure painters from the local area. In addition, a variety of prints and unframed originals are to be found in the browsers, plus a huge selection of our artists’ greetings cards. There is no constraint on style or genre so expect to see a wide selection ranging from photorealism to abstract, figurative to landscape, executed in a broad variety of mediums.

Richard Adam’s ‘Of A Tuesday’

This year we have a real scoop! Richard Adams, the club’s vice president, has several of his original paintings as well as browser items for sale alongside our members’ work. In addition, as a raffle prize, we are offering a signed and framed print of Richard Adams’ Of a Tuesday, created with the club in mind. Tickets are available to purchase throughout the duration of the exhibition. The raffle proceeds will support the financing of the exhibition.

If you live in, or have recently visited, Rye hopefully, you will have seen the eye-catching, big blue banner advertising our exhibition, adorning the outside lobby wall at St. Mary’s Centre. The same banner is on show inside the Rye Kino Café – Tuesday Painters are very grateful for the collaboration of both venues.

The illustration displayed on the banner, Janet Haken’s Painting the Town… was the result of a design competition run by the club earlier in the year whereby members were invited to submit, anonymously, potential images for the club’s promotional material to reflect either Rye or painting. Members then voted for their choice (but could not vote for their own!). Janet’s painting, with its striking colour contrasts and strong lines, won by a nose, possibly because it reflected both themes. Congratulations, Janet!

As in previous years, visitors are invited to vote for their ‘Favourite Painting.’ Please pick up a voting slip as you enter the exhibition. There are no prizes but the winner of the public vote will be awarded a framed certificate. ArtWrite of Rye will also choose their favourite painting, the artist of which will be awarded a voucher for art materials.

Do come along and peruse our members’ works of art; choose a present; make an investment; or buy something simply because you can’t resist it! Do not forget to buy your raffle tickets (you’ve got to be in it to win it!)… and vote for your favourite painting.

Tuesday Painters look forward to welcoming you at the 2024 Exhibition and Sale of Art. Entry is free. With a leaflet bearing the Tuesday Painters stamp (obtained when visiting us) you gain a discount on a food or drink purchase at The Kino Café next door in the courtyard.
