Writer and broadcaster Richard Crowest will be reading from the works of EF Benson, Elizabeth Wharton and others in the garden at Lamb House in Rye’s West Street this Saturday June 6. This time last year the BBC were busy in the walled garden filming a three part version of Benson’s “Mapp and Lucia” novels written in the National Trust-owned 18th century house. Some seats will be provided, but you can also bring a rug and sit on the grass. From 5pm, tickets at the door cost £8 and light refreshments and prosecco will be on sale.

“Watercolour, a peculiarly English Art” is the title of next Thursday’s (June 11) lecture for the Friends of Rye Art Gallery at 7:30 pm by Andy Wood, President of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colour – entrance £4 for Friends, £5 for non-members. Rye Conservation Society is holding its Annual Garden Party on Sunday June 14 between 2 and 5pm at Little Orchard House, West Street. Admission charge includes a cream tea.
