Singing for joy

Are you tired of the stream of bad news we are fed daily in the media? Then Music Lifeline in Rye would like to invite you to come and listen to the heart-warming sounds of around 300 state primary school children singing together at The White Rock Theatre on Thursday, March 14 from 9:30am to 11am as part of the Hastings Music Festival.

This pilot event, sponsored by Music Lifeline, is being led by their music ambassador, Andy Nunn, a local music teacher, musician and composer. He has spent the last few months liaising with heads of local state schools and encouraging children to join forces to delight audiences and perform songs, many composed by him.

Unused instruments in the attic?

You probably won’t find anything like Paul McCartney’s guitar in your attic but if you have any unused instruments which are in excellent condition – particularly keyboards – we’d like to hear from you. Or you may like to donate money for us to buy new instruments for future music workshops?

The founder of Music Lifeline said: “Thanks to many of you who kindly donated instruments to Music Lifeline last year, we have also been able to provide instruments in schools to help them introduce children to the joy of music. We will be developing our programme to include more singing assemblies, choirs and music workshops.”

One grateful music teacher in a Hastings state school said: “The joy of having a real instrument in the room is difficult to put into words, but I know for a fact that it has already inspired children to play keyboards at home, so once again thank you.”

  1. So glad the project of lending instruments to children is off the ground and a pleasure to know that my donation of a guitar and flute brings joy.
