The Mermaid Inn, rebuilt in 1420, is offering private tours of the building during its annual closure in January 2017, with the aim of sharing its rich history and raising funds for the National Deaf Children’s Society.

The hotel and restaurant will close after lunchtime on Sunday, January 8, until lunchtime on Friday, January 13, and from after lunchtime on Sunday, January 14, until lunchtime on Friday, January 20. The Giant’s Fireplace Bar remains open throughout the period.

Between 10am and 5pm during closure days, there will be the opportunity to experience a private guided tour of The Mermaid. Discover the 12th-century cellars, find out the story behind The Slade School of Art murals, walk in the secret passageways and sit in the priest hole, together with hearing a wealth of stories.

To book a private tour, contact The Mermaid on 01797 223065 or via email: info@mermaidinn.com. The management asks only that a donation is made at the end of the tour to The National Deaf Children’s Society which is The Mermaid’s favoured charity.
