Tonight’s moon

Tonight’s moon is a knowing moon.
One eyebrow raised, she casts a sardonic eye
Over this silly world and these Castle Fields
Where near-on a thousand starlings swarm and swirl
Cleaving together as one vast being in the failing light –
A miracle of movement massing overhead –
Performing an aerial display for their singular delight
Forming and reforming beneath the gaze
Of this one milk-white knowing moon.
