The 60m crane next to Monkbretton Bridge dominates the Rye skyline at the moment, but what’s the view above?
Drone footage shot last week shows the extent of the work taking place to install piles in the riverbank, continuing the multi-million pound flood protection work that was due to finish last year.
This film was recorded by Stu Cooper at Clear Air Flying in Winchelsea. In it you can seen the new saltmarsh at Camberfield, the work along the river, Rye Creative Centre, Rye in the distance and the 400 tonne crane at full height. The footage was taken at the end of the day when no workers were on site.
Fifty metres of steel sheet piles are being driven into the ground to help strengthen the riverbank and reduce erosion. A layer of large rocks will then be placed behind the new steel piles.
